- You guys are a pretty small company. There’s this other place that’s a really big company and they only change $3 a month. Why should I choose you over them?
Hey, if you feel more comfortable with a big impersonal company doing your hosting, you’re welcome to it. We like being a small company and plan on staying that way. Why? Well, because customer service is important to us. If we had a million customers there’s no way we could answer every one of your questions. As it is, if you submit a question or a support request you get a personal (read: not automated or templated) response from us on the same day, usually within a few hours or less. We work with you until your question is fully answered or you problem is completely fixed. What you don’t get is some random guy from India (where big hosting company outsources their tech support) who doesn’t know anything about you or your website. Staying small means we can stay familiar with all our customers and their websites and that means that if there’s a problem, we can fix it faster.
- I saw this other company that offers a million gigabytes of space and bandwidth. You don’t offer anywhere near that much, how come?
The old adage is definitely true in this case, Bigger is not always better. Having a million gigabytes of bandwidth is great, but you know what? You’ll never use it. Offering that much sounds really good and it tricks people into thinking it’s better, but unless you are some kind of internet rockstar you’ll never need anywhere near that amount of space or bandwidth.
If you have a normal blog or website with a decent sized audience you’d probably never need more than 20 gigabytes a month of bandwidth. As far as web space, normal website files take up a VERY small amount of space, so unless you post a lot of pictures (because they can take up a good bit of space) you would never need more than 1000 megabytes of space. Our current packages offer very reasonable amounts of space and bandwidth that will be more than enough for most website owners and bloggers. Of course, there are exceptions (ie if you are an internet rockstar or a photographer with lots of high resolution photos), but that’s why we can make a hosting package customized to your website’s content and audience.
- How do I know what hosting package to get? I don’t know how much space/bandwidth I need!?
If you are starting a new blog or website the Mini or Basic packages will be more than enough to get you started. If you upload a lot of images to your site, the Basic package is going to be a better choice, as pictures can take up quite a bit of space. Once you more established and start getting more traffic you can always upgrade your package if you need to.
If you have an already established blog or website, a good rule of thumb for how much bandwidth you need is to look at your stats. If your Unique Visits per month are in the hundreds and low thousands, the Mini or Basic packages will work just fine. If you are getting more than a five thousand unique visitors per month you will probably need our Large or Premium packages.
It is a good idea for small businesses and photographers to get at least the Basic package, as sites like these usually need a lot of space to store images.
